On the 12th of January 2008, the AFNIC has reached the figure of one million .fr domain names.
In 2004 that number was only at 150.000. One year later, it doubled to 300.000.
The opening of the .fr to individuals in June 2006 seriously accelerated the registration of domains with this extension.
Today the .fr counts an impressive million registered domains, and the evolution of the extension remains positive.
Yet the .fr is still not open for individuals that reside outside of France, and the registration criteria are still very strict.
When these limitations are softened in the future, the extension will know another promising period.
