.KR :also in original version!
|
After Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab emirates, Korea is now on the list of countries who apply to get their national extension in original version! This is what Korea Internet and Security agency, the Korean agency in charge of the Internet within the country, announced on May 9th.
Just like all other applicants for this project, Korea has to pass first the different steps imposed by the ICANN before being proud of its new extension. Since she already submitted an application to the authority of Assigned Names and Numbers, she first has to wait for her application to be approved, and if that’s the case, the equivalent of .KR ( current extension in Latin alphabet) in Hanguk ( Korean alphabet) should be launched.
According to the commission, Korea’s wish has great chances to get its new extension early next year. The members of the register are positive: “Korean Internet users will enjoy greater convenience with the introduction of Korean-letter domain names for local residents. It will also help the global promotion of the Korean language and marketing activities using it”, reports one of them.
The adventure of national extensions in non-Latin characters seems to get off to a good start…
