Many things have certainly changed since the 36th ICANN’s summit, on October 30th! Few weeks ago, we announced here the new possibility to register domain names in non-Latin characters, for countries using a different alphabet. Well now, this becomes also possible for top-level domains.
As a matter of fact, the Bulgarian register doesn’t waste any time and has launched on its website a discussion about Bulgaria’s own internationalized top-level domain. They ask Internet users for their opinion about several points:
- Firstly, they want to define the two-character combination that would be most appropriate for the country. As Bulgaria is concerned, we’re dealing here with Cyrillic Alphabet.
- Secondly, the register wants to know which sponsoring organization would be best to present the new Bulgarian internationalized top-level domain.
- Lastly, once those two major points are clarified, the chosen extension and sponsors will be presented to the ICANN.
Finally, that is a very good initiative from the Bulgarian register: by asking the opinion of its users, they know for sure that they will satisfy the majority of them. And as this possibility to register top-level domains is open to all countries, many of them could be inspired by Bulgaria’s great way of operating.
