.BE : New version of the registration conditions

As a result of the spectacular rise of cyber squatting of .be domain names, DNS BE has decided a few months ago to review the ADR procedure. In casu the procedure to settle litigations will become faster and more correct.

Until now, the plaintiff who started the ADR procedure to protect his rights on a domain name, was responsible for all the costs. From now on, DNS.BE will - in case the ADR decision is in favour of the plaintiff - refund half of the costs to the plaintiff. This sum will be recuperated from the owner of the domain name.

To apply this decision, DNS BE has worked out a new version of the registration conditions. These conditions are applicable for all owners of a .be domain name and this starting on March 15, 2007.

We advise all owners of a .be domain name to take notice of this new version of registration conditions, available here. Compared to the actual version, these are the important modifications :

  • Replacement of the terms "license" and "license holder" by more specific terminology;
  • Reduction of the waiting period for the introduction of ADR decisions (15 days instead of 30 office days);
  • Introduction of a settlement for the recuperation of the costs in case of a succeeded ADR procedure;
  • Introduction of the principle that a "cyber squatter" is indirectly responsible for a part of the costs of the ADR procedure.
