.JP.NET : the alternative for .JP
|
On January 16th, the registry CentralNic launched a new sub-extension: .JP.NET. This extension gives any entity without a local address in the country the possibility to be on the Japanese market. This is not possible with a .JP as a local address is compulsory to register such a domain name.
There are four registration phases scheduled :
From January 16 to February 17, 2012 : Sunrise, exclusively for trademark holders who own a trademark that was registered prior to July 30, 2011. It is of course necessary that the desired domain name is identical to the trademark. Identical applications will be submitted to an auction process.
From February 20 to March 16, 2012 : Landrush phase, open to all. It will be possible to register "premium words" which means keywords, city names, one and two character domains, domains in Japanese characters etc. Once again, identical applications will be submitted to an auction process.
From March 19 to April 20, 2012 : the “.JP and .NET Owner Promotion” phase is exclusively dedicated to .JP or .NET domain names owners who want to obtain their matching .JP.NET domains, where that Domain Name was not previously registered or applied for during Sunrise or Landrush, and/or excluded by the Registry. An auction process will also take place in case of identical applications.
April 24, 2012 : General Availability according to the “first come, first served” basis.
