.ONG/.NGO : the new naming space for non-profit organizations

The ICANN will start accepting top-level domains in the year 2012. Among them two extensions, .ONG and .NGO, which should soon be the reference (and reliable!) online space for non-profit organizations.

It is PIR (Public Interest Registry), the organization that manages the .ORG, who proposed to operate and manage these new extensions. The registry has submitted his application to the ICANN and seems to have good chances to get the handling of these extensions.

The idea is smart : a .NGO and .ONG would make it much easier to distinct local, regional and global non-profit NGO's (NGO for non-governmental organizations in English, and ONG for "organizations non-gouvernementales" in French), from governmental or commercial entities.

.ONG/NGO domain names would be exclusively available for entities who can justify their non-governmental identity. Also, PIR adds that buying a .NGO would automatically assign you the equivalent domain in .ONG.

In the framework of the .NGO/.ONG project, PIR needs ONG's support. All the information related to how you can help this program are given on the following website: www.ngotld.org Check the availability of your domain name
