Verisign increases .COM and .NET prices

Verisign, the registry of the two popular extensions, had announced a while ago that they would soon raise their prices for .COM and .NET domain names. As a matter of fact, since January 15, 2012, the price of a .COM domain names increased at Verisign...but not at Register.be. The registry justifies this change by the need to protect himself from the "increasingly powerful distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks ".

It is interesting to know that prices have been raised according to the ICANN approval in 2007, which was to allow price increase of the "main" extensions such as .COM, .ORG etc. And even though .COM already raised his prices three times (by the end of 2007, by the end of 2008 and in 2010) and that he promises that this raise will be the last for .COM, other extensions should follow this path soon and announce that their registration prices for a domain name has increased.
