Domain name .IL : soon available in O.V too !

The news came out yesterday: the Hebraic extension will soon also surf on the new vibe that has been shaking for few weeks the domain name’s world, by getting shortly the equivalent of .IL in Hebraic characters. This is at least what announced yesterday the Israel Internet Assocation. Dorom Shimkon, one of the heads of this association, declared: “We are part of a global process which is currently taking place. When the process is completed it will be possible for the first time to use non-Latin letters in the website address bar including Hebrew."

The whole thing should still take a few times before it all becomes reality. The Israel Internet Association has just got the process started for companies and organizes to reserve their domain names in priority. This phase should last three months, a phase that will allow those entities to register their domain name in Hebrew.

After those three months, it will become possible for everybody to register its own domain name in Hebrew, as long of course as the chosen name is still available.

The Israel Internet Association still precise something: the web addresses in Hebrew will first still only be available with Latin characters. Only after some relevant approvals and completion of the process that their equivalents in Hebrew will be available. Patience…
