Domain name .MISR : Egypt in the heart of modernity
|
Egypt can be proud: she becomes the third Arabic country with its own national extension by launching the .MISR in Arabic characters.
The Egyptian ministry of communication is also the register of the extension, and his choice was to share the management of domain names registrations between three different entities. As a matter of fact, each of TE Data, Vodafone Data and Link Registrar will be in charge to proceed to .misr domain names registrations ...but each will be free to make it his own way. Applicants should consequently expect different rules and procedures according to the entity they will choose. But for now, these details are far from discouraging the Egyptian’s enthusiasm.
Until July, 29th, priority was given to Egyptians governmental institutions so they could register/secure their domain names.
From August, 22nd Egyptians companies and holders of Egyptian brands already registered in Arabic will be turn. They will then be able to register the equivalent of their domain name in Arabic characters. The Ministry ads that no local presence will be needed to do that.
What follows stays unclear and not really set yet. Nobody knows when the “Sunrise” ends, and the details about it neither. The only thing that is known for now, is that there will be a “Landrush” as well; but there again, no formalities or registration procedures have been divulgated.
The only information we are quite sure about is the following one: in order to register a .misr domain name, the applicant will have to substitute the registration certificate of its brand or company, but he will also have to bring along a letter asking for the registration of his wanted domain name in Arabic characters. The registration should be possible only if the applicant is able to get a “delegation of power towards the provider”, officially given by the Egyptian government (or by an Egyptian embassy/consulate).
