The news came out yesterday: the Hebraic extension will soon also surf on the new vibe that has been shaking for few weeks the domain name’s world, by getting shortly the equivalent of .IL in Hebraic characters. This is at least what announced yesterday the Israel Internet Assocation. Dorom Shimkon, one of the heads of this association, declared: “We are part of a global process which is currently taking place. When the process is completed it will be possible for the first time to use non-Latin letters in the website address bar including Hebrew."

Even though the extension has been created 13 years ago, not a single domain name has been registered since then. However, after she was entrusted to the American provider Monolith Innovation in 1997 because of the difficult political situation of the country, one would have expected a better future for the somalian extension. It just did not happen this way. Because they couldn’t have any financial support, the American company had to give up its ambitions… which has led, under other reasons, to its own dissolution.

Currently Unicef (United Nations of International Children's Emergency Fund) is studying the possibility to open its own top-level domain. Since the association is based in nearly 190 countries, the idea does not seem bad and could actually turns out as something very efficient!

The Tunisian Agency of Internet (A.T.I) launched on March, 16th 2009 the liberalization process of its .TN extension. According to the latest news, the Register had announced July, 14th 2010 as the last day for the “Sunrise”. On July 15th, 2010, the A.T.I official website was referring to the “total and effective” opening of .TN for all residents and owners of an international brand registered in Tunesia!
